Introduction to Becoming a Public Water System Operator (Zoom) For Grade VSS, D1, T1

Fridays, Oct. 4 – Nov. 1, 2024

7:30 AM – 11:00 AM

This 17.5-hour course is designed to introduce individuals with little or no previous drinking water experience in preparing for the Grade 1 Treatment and Grade 1 Distribution Water Operator Examinations, as well as the Very Small System (VSS) Water Operator Examination. The course is taught over a 5-week period with each class meeting once per week for 3 ½ hours each week. Topics covered include: responsibilities of public water systems and public water system operators; basic math & chemistry; overview of state and federal drinking water regulations; basic water treatment processes; water sampling requirements and techniques; overview of distribution system components (e.g., pipes, valves, pumps, tanks and water meters); cross connection control and water operator safety.

Location:  Remote Online with Zoom

  • This remote online course has been approved by the Mass. Board of Certification of Drinking Water Operators.

  • All participants must have access to a computer with a camera and microphone throughout the entire class.  (Computers without audio can connect to the audio via a telephone).  

  • You will receive a confirmation email approximately one week before the course to confirm your registration and give you log in instructions for the class. 

  • We will offer an optional Zoom practice session that will be held on Monday, Sept. 30th, at 7:30 AM, for anyone not familiar with Zoom. Instructions for attending the Zoom practice session will be sent to all students 1 week prior to the start of the course.
